A slight variation on the model of the main entrance to The Torre De Belem

At the request of a customer a model of the New Gate area of the wall surrounding Coventry during the English Civil War was commissioned. Research revealed scant detail apart from the presence of the walls footprint. However following contact with the Herbert Museum and with reference to a map by John Speed from 1610 a 3' by 4' model was developed to include the New Gate Tower and ajoining walls, the measurements taken from the existing tower of Swan Gate known to be of similar design and construction.

The Salutation, an inn that was known to exist in the area of New Gate was included. Being an area of some wealth at the time some small houses and shops were included within the wall.
